Their big 13.5-inch TW5v2 subwoofer has you covered. It’s the thinnest subwoofer in its class, requiring only 2.625 inches (67 mm) of depth and mounting in about the same footprint as a typical 12-inch woofer. Bigger sound in a smaller package: That’s a win-win all around.
Engineered for big sound from a small enclosure: In keeping with its “tight spaces” mission, this 13.5-inch speaker is optimized for enclosures that are far smaller than what most 12-inch woofers would require. In fact, its airspace needs are only slightly larger than those of a typical small-box 10-inch woofer.
Huge 7-inch diameter voice coil: The TW5v2 speaker’s patented concentric tube structure supports a big 7-inch diameter voice coil for optimum power handling, stability and control in a space-saving frame configuration.
Polypropylene Cone Technology: Known for its durability, the TW5v2 subwoofer’s injection-molded, mica-filled polypropylene cone design and its resilient synthetic rubber surround let you enjoy consistent, full-bodied bass output that maintains low distortion under heavy excursion.
Dynamic motor analysis (DMA) optimized design: Proprietary motor, suspension and cone modeling systems are used to achieve long, linear excursion capabilities with low distortion and powerful sound output. The result is tight, clean, articulate bass performance at all power levels.
Space-saving frame design: Benefiting from years of JL Audio woofer design experience, the robust TW5v2 speakers feature purpose-engineered cast-alloy frames that have been modified for even greater strength. A space-saving tab-ear frame design allows the 13.5-inch TW5v2 to fit in about the same footprint as a conventional 12-inch woofer.
Powerfully adaptable: On a wide range of vehicle applications, with sealed or ported enclosures, the 13.5-inch TW5v2 subwoofers deliver superb sound quality and power handling when paired with amplifiers in the 250- to 600-Watt range.
Concentric tube suspension technology: The TW5v2 series features a patented concentric tube structure built into the injection-molded speaker cone body. This structure supports the voice coil and a full annular spider while permitting the placement of a large motor structure farther forward in the speaker than with conventional designs.
FCAM™ technology: This “floating cone attach method” of bonding the surround/cone assembly to the voice coil former/spider structure ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.

JL Audio notes: The enclosure recommendations listed above are external dimensions which assume the use of 3/4-inch (0.75 in; 19 mm) thick material. If you are using 5/8-inch (0.625 in; 16 mm) thick material, subtract 1/4 inch (0.25 in; 6.5 mm) from each dimension. Do not use any material with a thickness of less than 5/8ths inch (0.625 in; 16 mm) as this may compromise the rigidity of the enclosure.
JL Audio recommends the use of this in a bi-amplified system using high-quality satellites and a high-quality amplifier. They do not recommend the use of this with a passive crossover (coil), as this type of device will adversely affect performance.
